We at Southaven are a friendly and loving congregation that sincerely desires to worship God in the Simplicity of a New Testament service. It is a simple but warm service of cappella singing, prayer, and preaching of the doctrines of grace to the Honor and Glory of God. We welcome all that truly desires to Worship God in Spirit and Truth.

Our church was constituted on August 26, 1964. The original thirteen members entered into a church covenant all members signing the covenant after agreeing upon the Articles of Faith and the Rules of Decorum.

Four Brethren and nine Sisters were declared to be a Gospel Church, in order, invested with all the privileges on a New Testament Church. So declared by Elder Bill N. Boyd, Moderator of a duly elected presbytery composed of the following.

Proper letters were granted in full fellowship for the expressed purpose of organizing a Primitive Baptist Church in Whitehaven, Tennessee. Brother A. B. Huckaby, a deacon of Memphis Primitive Baptist Church, came as deacon, being the only one of the Whitehaven Primitive Baptist Church.

Elder E. D. McCutcheon, Clerk.

Unfortunate circumstances happened beyond our control and for the safety of our members we sold the building and moved to Southaven, Mississippi. Our prayer is that God will bless us once again to have a strong and growing Church.

We believe in the finished work of Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the only means of salvation, and that he was born Savior. (Luke 2:11) “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”

We believe that Jesus came to, and accomplished salvation for his people. (Matthew 1:21) “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus; for he shall save His people from their sins.”

We believe that the people of Christ are those which were given him in the covenant of grace before the foundation of the world. (Eph. 1:4) And that he gives eternal life to each of them. “As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.” (John 17:2)

We believe that none of those who have been chosen of God and for whom Christ died shall ever fall away from God’s saving grace so as to be eternally lost. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing but should raise it up again at the last day.”

We DO NOT believe that Jesus came to make salvation possible for the whole world, or to give all a chance to be saved. Salvation is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of grace (Eph. 2:8). “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves (either the grace of the faith); it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:9 plainly states that it is, “Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

We DO NOT believe that a sinner can accept Christ to be saved. The scriptures do not have anything to say about the sinners accepting Christ, but they do teach that “He…(The Father)…hath made us accepted in the Beloved… (The Son)… in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.” (Eph. 1:6, 7)

We believe that God doesn’t ask us about our interest in salvation before He saves us, because the scripture teaches us that while we are in an unsaved condition that, “There is none that understands there is none that seeketh after God.” (Rom. 9:16)

We DO NOT believe that preaching of the gospel brings about the eternal salvation for sinners. The gospel only shines the light on what God has already done. “Our Savior Jesus Christ hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” (2 Tim. 1:10)

We believe that Christ did not leave anything to be finished concerning the work of salvation that the church, the Ministry, or you and I must complete. In John 17:4 Jesus said, “I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.” And in John 19:30, He said, “It is Finished.”
